Utilizing AI in client benefits strategies offers many competitive advantages such as increased personalization, data-driven decision making, increased efficiency through automation, and an increased client member experience.
Benefits personalization is critical for increasing employee engagement, and AI (specifically chatbots) can provide 24/7 availability to get client member questions answered, increased self-service resolutions, and provide the personalized recommendations they are looking for.
It’s important to demystify AI to clients to overcome their objections. Some things to consider when dealing with a hesitant client include addressing concerns about less tech savvy members using it, and ensuring confidence by discussing security measures that are in place.

Washington Cares Act contributions set to begin

Effective July 1, 2023, client employers with employees in Washington (state) will need to begin withholding employee premiums to the Washington Cares Fund. These funds, set at 0.58% of an employee’s gross wages, will be reported and submitted quarterly to the Washington Cares Fund, similar to how paid leave contributions are reported. Initially set to roll out last year, withholdings were delayed to work through contested aspects of the program. For more information on this program to inform your clients, check out this page.

Changes to 1-9 remote verification

Many client employers have relied on COVID relief allowing employers with remote workers to utilize a virtual I-9 verification process to review and confirm new hires’ required documents. This relief allowing the virtual review is ending, and your clients should work with their appropriate counsel to determine their next steps, including a change to ongoing employment document review and a need to perform in-person reviews of the documentation for those hired under the virtual review. Virtual inspections must cease before August 1, 2023, and in-person reviews for those hired since March 2020 whose forms were virtually inspected are to be completed by August 30, 2023.
