Commuter Benefits Mandates Continue to Expand   

 

More employers will need to find commuter solutions   

The State of Illinois is the latest area to mandate commuter benefits for the City of Chicago and many surrounding areas. This is part of a larger trend around the US to require companies to have this option in their benefits line-up. They join the following areas who also have a similar mandate in place: 

  • Philadelphia 
  • Seattle 
  • New York City 
  • San Francisco Bay Area 
  • Los Angeles 
  • Berkeley, & Richmond, CA 
  • Washington, D.C. 
  • State of NJ

Medicare Part D Notices of Creditable Coverage deadline approaches      

 

Client employers must keep the October 15 deadline for the Medicare Part D Notices of Creditable/Non-Creditable Coverage in mind as the deadline is rapidly approaching.

Illinois enacts a pre-tax commuter benefit for certain populations    

 

Illinois client employers with offices within certain geographic areas that employ more than 50 employees and are within one mile of a transit service location must begin offering pre-tax commuter benefits effective January 1, 2024. This requirement includes all the City of Chicago, most suburbs, and many other townships.

2024 San Francisco Health Care Security Ordinance (HCSO) expenditure rates released     

 

The San Francisco Office of Labor Standards Enforcement has published the 2024 SF HCSO expenditure rate. Client employers with workers in San Francisco must contribute at least the minimum cost per hour towards their employee’s health care. For client employers with more than 100 workers, the expenditure increases to $3.51 (up $0.11, a 3.24% increase from 2023).
