Join us for Trainings, Roundtables, and Product Updates 

The beginning of a new year brings a new Tech with Heart Series—your home for all client events. Whether or not you engaged with us in Tech with Heart 2024, you should have received an email yesterday with registration or login instructions. So, if you haven’t already, take a minute to register, check out the hub, and add sessions to your schedule and calendar.

Product Updates: 2024 Greatest Hits

Happy New Year. We’re excited to launch into 2025 with a great 2024 under our belts. Let’s take a quick look back at some of the best new features we added for you in 2024.

    • Decision Support Tool – Added “compare to current” functionality so members could look at current and potential elections and amounts side by side during enrollment. 
    • Enrollment Surveys and Benefits Insights Dashboards – More than 840,000 survey responses have come in for the enrollment surveys since June 2024, providing great insights to their enrollment experience, benefits literacy, and benefits expectations. ICYMI, here’s an overview of the surveys and a quick video explaining them. These can be activated at any time to start providing you with valuable and actionable insights
    • WCAG Compliance Updates (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) – While this work is mostly behind the scenes, making sure our site and mobile app are accessible to everyone is extremely important. We’re constantly working to make sure those with vision, hearing, and understanding challenges can use Benefitsolver®.
    • MyChoice® Accounts – Enhancements included integrated HSA investments, Claim Choice for members to manage provider-submitted claims, automated balance reminders, and new claim statuses to increase member understanding. Plus, members can now manage their HSA investments from the MyChoice® Mobile App.
    • Service Center – Member services got several upgrades, including automated outbound call functionality for case follow-up and proactive communication; callback scheduler for specialized call handling; IVR enhancements for MyChoice Accounts claim status, tax info, HSA investments queue, estimated wait times during AE, and a new escalations queue for member advocates.
    • MyChoice Mobile App – Had eight releases in 2024 and ended the year with a 4.8 (out of 5) rating in the Apple Store and a 4.7 rating in the Google Play Store. The team released a fully redesigned app experience in Jan. and added member feedback options throughout the experience, among many other enhancements.
    • Sofia – Increased her language capability from 27 to 52 languages! ¡Felicitaciones! and축하해 (Congratulations!). Additionally, she has a new widget on the member home pages, now powers a cognitive search to find and summarize reference center documents (and even cite the page number!), and has more responses than ever related to claims, taxes, dependents, life events, and more.

What’s New in Compliance?

President Biden Signs Paperwork Burden Reduction Act

On Dec. 23, 2024, President Biden signed the "Paperwork Burden Reduction Act," introducing key changes to ACA 1095 notification requirements. The act modifies provisions under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), eliminating the requirement for employers and health insurance providers to send 1095-B and 1095-C tax forms—used to demonstrate proof of minimum essential coverage—unless specifically requested by covered individuals. Requests for these forms must be fulfilled by January 31 or within 30 days of the request, whichever is later, and individuals must be informed of this option per IRS guidelines.
 
Our Approach to 2024 ACA Reporting
For 2024 ACA reporting, Businessolver will continue generating and delivering 1095 forms based on member preferences stored in Benefitsolver, unless specifically requested to hold on generation. If you do not have electronic delivery preference enabled, then all forms will be generated and mailed as in years past. Currently, about 60% of members have opted for electronic delivery, while 40% prefer printed forms. The key consideration in this approach is that the IRS has yet to issue the parameters around the notice requirement. Until the IRS finalizes the specific notice requirements for transitioning from these preferences, we will honor existing delivery methods to ensure compliance with federal regulations. Additionally, state mandates requiring certain documentation may not align with these federal changes, further supporting our decision to maintain the current approach for the 2024 reporting period.
 
Looking Ahead to 2025
As the IRS develops detailed requirements and guidance, we will update our processes to reflect these changes for the 2025 reporting period. Businessolver remains committed to compliance and providing timely updates to support our clients in navigating evolving federal and state reporting obligations.
