Simplifying dependent removal for annual enrollment 2027

A simpler, clearer way for employees to remove dependents during enrollment

Dependent changes are a routine part of annual enrollment and can be confusing for employees to navigate. For annual enrollment 2027, we’re introducing a new feature that allows employees remove dependents on their own during enrollment.

A confirmation screen shows what will happen before a change is made, so employees know what to expect. Updates made during enrollment take effect in the new plan year, while current coverage stays the same until then. Court-ordered dependents cannot be removed, and we keep a record of past dependent changes behind the scenes.

Overall, this update creates a more predictable enrollment process and makes dependent changes easier to complete for employees. These updates are expected in July 2026.

Check out the recording of our Q2 Product Update to learn more about this new feature.

Decision support enhancements coming soon

Clear guidance to support smarter benefit decisions

Our Decision Support tool already helps employees think through benefit choices during enrollment. Ahead of annual enrollment 2027, we’re rolling out updates that build on this experience and make enrollment easier to navigate. These changes are expected to take place in July 2026.

At the start of enrollment, the review current benefits option is more prominent, so employees can review their current benefits before choosing how to proceed.

Decision Support questions will also be simpler. Familybased questions are grouped into a single view to reduce repetition, and employees can review and adjust estimated healthcare usage earlier in the process before comparing plans.

Together, these updates support clearer choices and a more confident enrollment experience.

New York confirms transition from Essential Plan to Qualified Health Plans

New York announced that some Essential Plan members will move to Qualified Health Plans (QHPs) starting July 1, 2026. This change follows a reduction in premium tax credit availability and has been approved by CMS.

Employers with employees in New York may see changes to enrollment options or subsidy eligibility for lowerincome employees. Being aware of this transition can help employers prepare for employee questions and understand potential coverage shifts.

Read the New York State Department of Health announcement for more information.

IRS updates FAQs for education assistance programs

On April 20, 2026, the IRS updated its FAQs for Section 127 education assistance programs. The updates address taxfree treatment rules and documentation requirements for employers offering education benefits.

Employers offering education assistance should review the updated guidance to confirm their programs follow IRS rules. This helps ensure benefits remain taxfree for employees and supports compliant program administration.

Check out the FAQs on the IRS website to learn more.
